In December 2008 Dr Sylvia Esser-Gleason, a physician from Dayton Ohio, traveled to Don Bosco Ngangi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Don Bosco Ngangi is a center helping refugees, orphans and war victims in the city of Goma. Goma is located in North Kivu Province in the heart of the current war that has devastated the Congo since 1994. The suffering and need she witness there lead her to found Project Congo. Medical Center success story 13 month old Ivote arrived at Dom Bosco Ngangiweighing only 1.5 kilos and near death from severe malnutrition. He is pictures in the arms of his mother after several months of intensive care at the Dom Bosco Ngagni Nutrtional Center. Cases like his are not rare in Goma.
