The Rape Capitol of the World
According to the UN the Democratic Republic of Congo has the highest incidence of rape in the world. Rape is used as weapon of war to disseminate terror, demoralize to population and disrupt society. In the eastern Congo war zones over 1000 women are raped a month.

from OnkoNgo site
The world owes Congolese women an apology for not coming to their help while being raped or used as sex slaves. This is an irreversible crime.

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." Desmond Tutu

United Nations Security Counsil Resolution 1325
In October 2000, the Security Council formally passed the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325), calling for greater participation and incorporation of women's unique perspectives in the "3 P's": participation in conflict prevention, peace-building and reconstruction; protection of women and girls' human rights during conflict; and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).

Implementation of UNSCR 1325 has been slow, and at its 10th anniversary this year, members of the women, peace and security community will gather around the world to take stock of what more needs to be done to make the resolution's goals a reality.
